Propter Veritatem

The sheer wide space of firmament need not
be other than an abyss, and the lights
that rise and look on us in various nights
be more than burning. To leave the world and rot
in sleep eternal is no shame – indeed,
within one atom I have found more peace
than in a church, and more infinities
than holy writ proclaims fill each small seed.
This apple tree has fruit enough to feed
a whole new people: one who never trod
an eden or a hell, or felt the need
to fear a day when death should come to pass.
For I have looked into the eyes of God,
and seen but only stars.
