Today is when you will become sixteen.
A coming age, yet age you will conquer—
When youth is tempt and drawn by your allure,
The aging teens you have passed by unseen.
Each year an age and many more between,
Your patchwork life a quilted bricoleur;
This day your nine-year youth a rouged colour,
Perhaps in ten years’ time you’ll look sixteen—
Such youth a gift scarce granted to a few.
The pink of health will always be with you;
Let happiness sow seeds along your fore,
And love take root within your youthful heart—
Maturity of age a wisdom to impart—
That you be you to me, forevermore.
