Acrostic

Verily, I must say—this song of his

Enchains the meaning of these words of bliss;

Remain to see what love these two doth share

Kept tender, true and free of worldly care.

Lost womb to a stranger, freely given kiss—

A sin, a sin! oh, lost virginities

Repudiated. Pregnant night so fair!

Turn back, dear girl; the child’s now mine, for there

Encompasses my love for thee. This glow

’Neath glinting skies is ours; from I to you

And you to I. So these soft winds do blow,

Changing the babe into my seed in time.

Holiest Love! pray light the sky’s deep hue;

Transfigure these dark nights to dreams sublime.
